Customer Testimonials

From Tom K. Reviewed January 2018 on www.tripadvisor.com

I'd always had a dream of a family yoga holiday, but on investigation, it became apparent that they are not (yet) much of 'a thing'. However Nic, his own family and their team are way ahead of the curve here, having been providing pretty much exactly what I had imagined/hoped for, over many years already.

When my wife found the website and it all looked so lovely, we agreed we simply had to go. In so many ways El Convento surpassed our fantasy of how ideal a week being totally off-grid, with daily stretching and aimless family hanging-out time could be...

El Convento is a very special retreat centre.

Our ashtanga yoga is taught on a yoga deck that overlooks the Sierra de las Nieves natural park and our teacher, Nic Freeman, was trained and has been blessed to teach by the creator of Ashtanga yoga, K. Pattabhi Jois. Nic teaches from beginner to advanced students, so you do not need to be able to bend like a pretzel to enjoy this yoga.

We understand that when your family begins to grow, priorities change and so we are one of the few retreats world-wide that offer child-care during yoga classes and throughout the day so you can regain your balance.

Our food is vegetarian, organic and from the most local source possible. Our chef fills the table every day with freshly baked bread, salads, curries, daal, gazpacho or heavenly cake.

Our accommodation is simple but beautiful with our bohemian bell-tents, tipis and huts. We don't believe that having a plasma television and private balcony will make your holiday more restful. Instead, we give you the mountains, the gardens, the terraces and the rivers to wander through, meditate on, socialise in or simply sit next to.

We aren't damaging our environment by building ill-fitting dormitories or wasting vast amounts of water on poorly sourced plants. Instead, we use the clean mountain water, piped directly from the spring, power ourselves on solar energy only and encourage energy efficiency with both indoor and outdoor showers as well as contemporary and compost toilets.

In all, we are not a manicured illusion of nature, we are part of the real deal. We would love to share what we consider to be the most beautiful place on the planet with you and so our prices are affordable and our yoga accessible to all.
