Ashtanga Yoga

Our Ashtanga yoga holidays are suitable for anyone who wants to pursue a joyful movement, body-oriented form of yoga that simultaneously conveys the meditative aspects of yoga and encourages health and fitness. Beginners and the less experienced of all ages are welcome, as are already regular practitioners and advanced students.

Ashtanga Yoga - A dynamic form of practice

The most striking feature is a continuous movement. Each posture (asana) is connected via a smooth flowing transitional movement (Vinyasa) with the next. Through the vinyasa, the body is heated, charged with energy and ready for the next asana.

Breathing and "Bandhas"

Asthanga yoga incorporates a uniform and powerful breathing technique known as Ujjay breathing. This serves as a fixed point of concentration and leads the movement. The contraction of certain muscles (bandhas) together with the momentum built up by vinyasas and breathing, heat and energize the body. Udiana bandha supports and strengthens the spinal column. The body is strong, supple and maintains a vibrant aura.
